You may know me as an Ekphrastic poet, but...

I write many kinds of poetry in which I always try to capture the essence of a feeling, situation, or image in a few short words.

Sometimes my poems are brutal, sometimes funny, but always honest and sincere. A favorite type of poetry for me is “Ekphrastic” poetry.

I write poetry to pieces of art, sculpture, and music as shown in my book, The Clandestine Life of Paintings in Poems.

Robin Gabbert’s ekphrastic poetry melds words and feelings with paintings in a way that is harmonious and gentle. This form of poetry has balanced two things I love best - perfect words to describe beautiful art.

The Clandestine Life of Paintings in Poems

Newest Release

The Clandestine Life of Paintings in Poems is a record of conversations between a group of paintings, images, dreams, and musical compositions and one poet, who listened.

Much of the inspirational artwork featured in the book with each poem, was done by Northern California artists as well as one landscape by Matisse and a portrait done by Modigliani.

In this collection of ekphrastic poetry, the author doesn't "interpret" the paintings and other art so much as reflect on them in different ways, using poetry to make the reader appreciate something new, and often unexpected, in the images.

Reviews

This partnering of poems and art invites the reader to recognize our shared humanity. They pulse with natures beauty. Universal meaning danced my eyes from poem to painting to poem.
